Dr. Oliver Hemmers is research professor and executive director of the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He is a member of NIREC’s TCAB.
Oliver’s research interests include optimization of biodiesel production processes with a focus on sodium methoxide production and applications of x-ray spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation on gas-phase, solids and surfaces to probe electronic structures, correlations and processes; material science such as the synthesis and characterization of surrogate substituted fluorapatite for long-term nuclear waste storage; hydrogen fuel storage with a focus on hollow-glas microspheres; and new materials for renewable energy research.
Oliver was named director of the Office of Strategic Energy Programs in 2006. The same year, he was elevated to associate research professor in the Department of Chemistry. The eight years prior, he was an assistant research professor in the department.
Oliver is co-founder, director and a board member of GPmicro, Inc. and Gruintine Pueche, Inc., and serves as director and board member of Infinity Capital Management.
