Eltron Research was founded in 1982 primarily as a materials science company focused on energy, chemicals and water. Paul Grimmer purchased the company in 2005 and changed the company’s name to Eltron Research and Development with the goal of taking to market several of the more than 300 SBIR/STTR projects the firm had been involved in developing.
Challenge
The high cost of oil and demand for a reduction in dependence on foreign fuels is driving the market for alternative fuel sources and the need for increased fuel efficiency.
Solution
The supply of natural gas (methane) has increased in the United States at a rate that makes it extremely affordable compared to oil and in a volume that will remain sustainable in the future. Eltron has developed a technology that has increased the efficiency of the refining process that converts methane to the fuel source benzene. The low cost of natural gas compared to oil now establish this technology as a very profitable alternative to imported crude oil. The second project is a compact system that injects hydrogen into the fuel system of automobiles and boosts fuel efficiency at a rate of 20 to 30 percent.
