Clean Energy Accelerator Advances Technology Innovations and Renewable Energy Project Deployment
Incline Village, Nevada – May 25, 2011 - The Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC) (www.nirec.org) today announced the promotion of Ms. Li Han Chan to the position of Vice President, Operations for the nonprofit clean energy technology accelerator.
“Li Han has demonstrated exceptional leadership in conceiving and developing NIREC’s technology innovation and commercialization programs,” said Jim Croce, president and CEO of NIREC. “Her unparalleled dedication to NIREC and to the expansion of clean energy innovation in Nevada and the nation has been instrumental to our success to date.”
Commercialization of clean energy solutions requires two highly functioning and interdependent ecosystems: Technology Innovation and Deployment Innovation, both, key elements of NIREC’s business strategy. As vice president of Operations, Chan leads NIREC’s technology innovation efforts, directing NIREC’s signature OnTRAC Program engagements with early stage companies and research partners. Through this program, NIREC integrates researchers, entrepreneurs, business experts and financial capital to identify, fund and accelerate the development and commercialization of clean energy solutions. With a focus on renewable energy, energy conservation and energy efficiency technologies, NIREC works with its research partners and early-stage companies to transform clean energy ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Employed by NIREC since March 2009, Chan has spent close to 10 years immersed in various stages of technology commercialization—from defining user needs and technology prototypes to product marketing and sales to strategy development and fundraising. Prior to joining NIREC, she was a strategy consultant at Marakon Associates, a London boutique top-tier management consulting firm where she advised international clients in the oil and gas, energy and hospitality industries on multi-million dollar strategies and issues. Chan began her career at Singapore Technologies Engineering—Singapore’s largest defense and engineering company. As a sales executive and then a business development manager, she was a bridge between engineers in Singapore and customers in the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, building strong industrial partnerships leading to product sales.
Chan serves as a commercial reviewer for the National Science Foundation's SBIR/STTR Program. She has also been involved with the Sierra Angels since 2009, heading up the group’s continual improvement process with a focus on the selection and due diligence process for potential investment opportunities.
Chan graduated with a BA from Stanford University.
The Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC) is a 501(c)3 independent nonprofit organization committed to increasing our nation's economic security through energy innovation, entrepreneurship and energy project implementation.
