Press Release - NV Energy and NIREC Partner to Grow Nevada's Renewable Energy Industry

NV Energy Foundation grant promotes
expanded NIREC presence in Las Vegas region

July 28, 2011 (Las Vegas, Nev.)—With an emphasis on strengthening its Southern Nevada presence, the Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization (NIREC) today announced the receipt of an NV Energy Foundation grant to support the nonprofit’s mission of accelerating innovations in clean energy technology and deployment. This grant and NV Energy’s participation in NIREC’s Innovation Partner Program  will increase resources dedicated to growing the Las Vegas region’s clean energy industry.

“NIREC has emerged as a credible source of knowledge and critical assistance to Nevada’s burgeoning renewable energy industry,” said Tony Sanchez, Senior Vice President of Government and Community Strategy for NV Energy. “NV Energy’s contributions to NIREC further demonstrate our commitment to the industry and its potential to diversify Nevada’s economy.”

“I am delighted by NV Energy’s decision to expand our collaboration to increase jobs and the economic impact of renewable energy in Nevada,” said NIREC Chairman and Co-founder Ian Rogoff. “With this support, NIREC is better positioned to accelerate its support for private companies and research partners in the region.”

Several clean energy innovations emerging from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas are already receiving expert guidance through NIREC’s OnTRAC™ Program—a commercialization assistance program of structured methodology, expert guidance and access to NIREC’s network. NIREC is also engaged with early stage technology companies, energy project developers, and a growing base of suppliers and service providers in the region.

“Through its historic commitment to renewable energy, NV Energy is a key enabler of industry growth in the state,” said NIREC President and CEO Jim Croce. “NIREC looks forward to the greater impact our expanded partnership can have on Southern Nevada.”
