In February 2011, the Small Business Administration announced the launch of the Entrepreneurial Mentor Corps (EMC) as part of the agency’s commitment to the Startup America initiative issued by the White House.
NIREC is proud to be selected one of only four organizations across the nation awarded a competitive grant through EMC to mentor companies with clean energy innovations. NIREC pairs mentors with participating companies to assess needs, opportunities and strategies, and ascertain steps to address any gaps.
NIREC has designed an advisory board to bring a 360 degree view of the companies and their needs. The board is comprised of experienced investors, technologiests and operations executives from the energy industry. Relying on NIREC’s extensive innovation network, mentors will provide access to technology, business development and operational resources, and accelerate the path to revenue growth, job creation, and financing while avoiding pitfalls that frequently challenge startups.
NIREC matches mentors with mentee companies participating in the EMC program. Initially, companies eligible for assistance through this program were required to have received SBIR funding. It was, subsequently, opened to all clean energy startups.
“Working with NIREC has been a very rewarding experience for me and my co-workers. NIREC has always been collaborative, responsive, and creative to help us to take our technology to the next level.”
